Daily Updates!!!

Monday July 2, Day 5

So, is it gonna rain tonight? Stay dry? Continue to be freezing? I say yes. You say no. I say I don’t know! That, I guess, means that anything could happen. Was prepared, though! Jeans, no shorts, T shirt, denim Summerfest shirt and a sweat shirt. Yup, I take no chances.

Well, let’s cut to the chase. I was pin night, so no need to bring tickets. As always, my pin is solidly mounted to my hat. That’s easier, then you don’t have to move it from one shirt to another.

It was already decided that dinner was going to be at Crawdaddy’s, which is not only excellent but also conveniently close to the Harley stage where Slash’s Snakepit was going to be later.

But first, don’t forget to get the Point at the Rock stage. As a matter of fact, I switched to regular Point, because that Amber is a bit of a tommy knocker. So if I save my stomach early on, I can have an even bigger tommy knocker later, like a Black Bavarian.

Walking past the Leinie stage, it felt like a fine mist was coming down. It looked like it might turn into something by the time the Sprecher stage was reached. That was perfect timing! The nice thing (one of them anyway) about the Sprecher stand is that it’s got a fairly large area covered. Got under there just before some large drops started falling. A good time to have that Bav Noir, right? You bet!.

Well, the rain didn’t last very long so the journey to the Harley stage could resume without much delay. At Crawdaddy’s, I immediately decided to start with Jambalaya, with the option to return for more later. An option, that I, by the way, only exercised once, when going back for a Gator on a Stick!

While getting food, the band Bad Boy was getting ready on stage, so what else was there to do than to sit down, eat and try to pretend to enjoy the music. Ah, they were OK, I suppose.

The stage was not exactly packed, but there were more people at the ‘Fest than I expected on a cool Monday, free entrance on a pin or not.

Surprisingly, people weren’t exactly packing in for the Slash show. Actually, when Bad Boy was done, several rows opened up, which meant a move to an even better spot was secured. Right in the middle, where the sound is super-duper!  Looking at the amps, I had a feeling that Slash was gonna kick ass. And after a few opening riffs, I knew it for certain! The relatively small but loyal crowd was getting it’s ass kicked. Fantastic show. And the sound. The sound was absolutely perfect! Slash was all over the stage, including the “wings”, so I wandered down and stood on the right side of the stage, hoping to get a close-up of the man himself. But, of course, now he was all over the center of the stage and on the left side. Well, all I could do was to have the camera ready to shoot. And finally, he was there, right in front of me, I got a beauty!

Even though the show was a winner, you still have to take a leak. Fortunately the bathroom is nearby. And I have to admit, that I did sneak over to the Big Backyard during one of these b-room breaks. Just to get a pic of Three Dog Night.

After being blown away by Slash and his gang, I got dragged over to the Sprecher Bingo stage, where some fairly decent blues was oozing out from. A band called Indigenous. I had never heard of them, but I sure would have liked to hear some more! As according to tradition, they were on their last tune, when I got there.

Well, another fine day at the ‘Fest was over, almost that is, still time to go get the Jumbo Chicago Style at Martino’s. Not a whole lot of moving around today, but I still had room for some pizza on the way out. Come to think of it, I actually tried to get Fish an’ Chips, but they were sold out. Good for me!

Tomorrow there’s another day!
