Daily Updates!!!

Wednesday, July 04, Day 7

Forth of July. Usually not the busiest days at the ‘Fest, but the free entrance on a pin typically helps attendance. Today, I did not park at my regular place. When arriving, I saw that they had decided to charge 15 bucks! On weekends maybe, but on the 4th! Donkey balls! I had also noticed that the place 100 yards up the street only charged $10, so I hung a U right there on busy Michigan and went back to that other place. 5 bucks, that’s little more that what you pay for a decent beer at the ‘Fest!

Well, the weather couldn’t be much better. Sun beating down from a predominantly blue sky and a slightly cool breeze now and then. Perfect for festing. Let’s begin festing then!

Oozed into the Rock stage area for a Point and possibly a visit to the Jimi Hendrix exhibit trailer. But while consuming the brew, I noticed that the line was longer than my johnson, all the way past the beer tent there. So I figured, maybe not today!

Did somebody say “eat”. OK, so it’s time to get some grub. But where? Haven’t had a Gyro yet. You’re kidding, it’s the friggin 7th day and you haven’t indulged on a Gyro yet. Get out of here! Well, no, as a matter of fact I’m shocked myself. So, off to Zorba’s at the Harley stage. What would go down nicely with a Gyro, had plenty of time to ponder that on the way there. Since the trek there took place by the lakefront, it was not much of a detour to swing by Water St for an Octoberfest. Let me tell you, Gyro and Octoberfest is a great combination! While eating, I was looking at the stage, where some country band was going at it. Apparently they were changing singers and some little hottie in pink leather (probably vinyl) pants started singing. I had to get a picture of her! I went all the way to the front for a close-up. Sweet sister Sadie!

OK, that Gyro killed my appetite, so what’s next? The Leinie stage seemed like a good place to start, Dark Star Orchestra would be on shortly, so mosey on back there. Pretty good size crowd there for the local version of  Grateful Dead, and they sounded very good, except what’s that supposed to mean, you come on play one song and then take a 5+ minute break?  Going for a “smoke” to get up to Dead standards? I don’t know.

Made an excursion to the Rock stage to see You’re Pretty. Not too bad! And then back to the Leinie stage, from where it was decided to go for the Miller stage and big movie star Keanu Reeves and his band, Dogstar. More out of curiosity, because I had heard that they weren’t that good. Arriving at the stage, the “previous” band, Rhythm Method was still on. They were ending their set with a Jimi-like version of Star Spangled Banner. Not bad at all!

After that, the crowd was building for the next act. I noticed a lot of young girls crawling on to the benches. I guess they were there to see (I mean literally) Keanu, regardless of what type of music his band plays. Most of these girls looked more to me like they would go for Britny Spears or shit like that!

Well, whoever told me that Dogstar weren’t that good, was right. Even though Keanu played a mean bass line, the whole thing was kind of fragmented. Don’t you ask yourself the question why a big millionaire film star would tour to play for peanuts? I don’t know, to have fun, I suppose!

Well, good or bad, I still ended staying for the entire show. I do like Mr. Reeves in the movies!

Again, we have come to that point in the evening where I navigate to Martino’s for the (no longer) daily Chicago Style. As I most often do, I went back to the usual spot to gobble it down. Sitting there, I noticed a lot of people, mostly girls, had gathered behind the Miller stage. Keanu again! I guess they were hoping for an autograph or maybe just a glimpse. I also noticed that it was getting colder. On no, not again! Put on some warm clothes and I’ll see you tomorrow!
