Daily Updates!!!

Thursday, July 5, Day 8

The end is near! So indulge while it it’s still there! We got past all the hoopla around the 3rd and 4th with fireworks and parking problems and so on. In other words, we are on the home stretch! And yes, I did pay GD 15 lousy bucks for parking! Enough of that!

The weather? Sunshine from a cloudless sky, but cool bordering on cold. I dressed in shorts and T and stuck with it, which I regretted later on.
Again, headed for the back of the Rock stage area for a Point, but decided to go check out the Hendrix trailer before I got beer (no drinks allowed).  Not much in there, really. I had expected it to be loaded with memorabilia, but all it was, was a bunch of gold and platinum records for various Jimi records plus some guitars made from wood that wasn’t even planted when he was still alive! There were, however, two screens showing footage from Isle of White and some documentary stuff. And last, but not least, your nifty boutique selling your average Jimi gift items. Bummer!

Well, go out and got a beer. I think tonight it was going to be  ribs at Pitsch’s. So start wading down there. Took the crowded route to maybe pick up some body heat! Didn’t help much, though! Got a BBQ Dinner, cost $9.50! Well, I have to admit it was good, but not much of it. The smallest rack I have ever seen (or had), a miniature cup of rice and beans plus a piece of bread! Friggin $9.50. With that size portion, I had to go for pizza at Venice, no shit! Oh, by the way, stopped for a Riverwest Dark on the way to the ribs, good with that!

Tonight is Beatles night with American English, a band that I have seen frequently for the past, oh maybe 14 years. And they seem to get better and better each time. Last year’s heavy storm put a stop to their performance, but this year it was gonna be different. So let’s head for the Pig stage to get a good spot. When we got there were already many well known faces and more showed up. Some bad comedian / ventriloquist was on stage while the band was setting up. Talking about captive audience! Well, we took turns going for beer and at some point we had so much that we were swimming in it!

Finally, AmEng came on and explained that they would do a 3 set show, Early years, Sgt. Pepper - Magical Mystery Tour and Final Years. Boy, these guys are good! There was a little bit of friendly wagering before they stared about what the first song was going to be. If you guessed She Loves You, you were right!

The played for more than 2 hours, much longer that normal head liners, so it was past 11 pm when I decided to go check out Tesla on the Rock stage. Of course, I missed one of my favorite Beatles songs, Dizzy Miss Lizzy that they did as an encore, damn! One thing I will say is: Get these guys on one of the big stages, please! That little area was packed beyond capacity!

Well, the Rock stage area was packed! I could hardly squeeze in, but I did manage to get around to the left side and get down front for some pictures! Lucky for me, they were no way near done yet, so I hung a round till the end! I even succeeded in finding Mr. Robinson, who was there with his lovely wife. Finding someone in a crowd like that typically never happens, especially not the ones you are looking for!

Well, in short Tesla rocks! I haven’t seen them in over 10 years, but they are still going strong, with most of the original members, it looked like.
The show ended so late that it would be impossible to get to Martino’s before closing, so no Dog tonight!

End of a musically perfect, but rather cold day. We can always hope for a warmer tomorrow! See ya.
