Daily Updates!!!

Friday July 6, Day 9

This day I was trying to get to the Fest early. When I say early, I mean noon or so. Didn’t quite make it there at that time, but an hour or there about later. It was the day to party with the guys, and rumor had it that the lovely Miss Jenny would be there too. Yummy! Hopefully her friends too!

Well, got there, parked and got to the North Gate without any complications and strayed into the Rock stage area and the first thing I saw was the bass player for the band on stage. He was sporting a purple, spike mohawk, something I don’t associate with the music that I heard from outside the stage, with horns and everything.

Next, I ran into a couple of the guys, and the rest was supposedly on their way. That made it very easy for me to find them, they found me! And since not  everyone was in favor of getting Point beer, we moved on to get Leinie. I got a Red, my favorite off-‘Fest beer. Since it was early, it was time to think about lunch as well. Figured it would be nice to get a little from a few different places, so I started out with just a Bratwurst from Mader’s. Good stuff!

From there we drifted towards the Harley stage, getting beer from here, there and everywhere.  Some more people were supposed to show up there. On the way there, I came to think of a bizarre incident from the night before, that I forgot to mention in yesterday’s Update: While waiting for American English, I was standing there with a beer in my hand, I felt and heard a “clunck” emanating from my beer. Something had apparently hit my beer. When I looked down, I saw a big wad of gum hanging on the rim of my cup. Someone must have tossed from the skyway that runs right over top of that area. I looked up, but I didn’t see any suspects! The gum hit the opposite side of the cup and it fell off almost by itself. Good thing it didn’t hit smack in the middle of the beer. It would have been ruined!

Well, back to present day! We were waiting at the Harley stage, decided to take the load off. The music was not any worse than usual, but I noticed that there were no table dancing going on and there were hardly anyone getting beer! Hey, come on! This is supposed to be party central, where is the spirit! Maybe it was the absence of Miss Jenny, Miss Fitz or other beauties that put a gloom and doom spell on the area.
After all had arrived, we decided to cruise to the southern tip of the grounds, just to check it out and get beer from Water St. at the same time!
Since we were just passing time until Bobby Friss at 6:30, we decided to walk back to the Rock stage. Not a mad dash or anything, just a slow drifting to said place. Made many stops on the way, one in the Miller area, at Martino’s. No, not for a Hot Dog, silly! Not late enough for that! I got their Italian Beef sandwich. Very nice, tender and tasty. Even came with a choice of hot or not so hot peppers!

On the way to the Rock stage, I signed up to win a Fender Strat guitar at the Guitar Center tent. Nothing worth noticing was going on at the Rock stage, so we walked to the Sprecher stage. For once a decent band this afternoon! Kojo was pumping out some damn good Reggae form the stage, so we stayed for a while.

Finally it was time for the highlight of the day, Bobby Friss! We wanted to get over there and get good seats, which we did. 3rd row center.

It looked the people around us were more or less camping out for David Crosby, which was after BF. They hardly looked like the Friss crowd, if you know what I mean! But what it also meant: No young girls to party with! And where are you, Miss Jenny?

Bobby Friss is a mad man, but that’s why we love him so much, I guess. He not only plays well, he also has girls come on stage to play his guitar, chug a beer or share a couple of Miller Lite with him!

He also, microphone in hand and singing, scales the control tower! Of course, I got pictures of all that plus one of him with RCA. The entertainment is at such a level that we hardly noticed the few rain drops that fell or that the whole thing lasted for 2 hours and 15 minutes! Good show, except a few of us were heartbroken over the no-show of Miss Jenny!

What do we do after that? Well, somehow we ended up at the Water Street Pavilion and went upstairs on the deck for a view and to wind down for the day.

On the way out, I stopped to look at Pam Tillis, and check out David Crosby’s CPR. Hey, the old boy is still going strong, they kicked some major ass! And certainamente, I went for a CS Hot Dog. So much for the decision to cut back, huh?

Well, a nice but kinda cloudy day had come to an end! See you tomorrow for the final weekend.
